The Easter Egg robbery

I didn't eat one Easter Egg this year. Not one. I couldn't bring myself to stoop so low as to think a chocolate egg could in ANY way speak of the power and wonder and universe-changing effect of the resurrection of Jesus. We say they represent 'new life'. Huh? Something sweet that we scoff down(and we can eat chocolate any time of the year anyway)... what has that to do with new life? An egg? It would only speak of new life if it was fertilized and left to hatch... but we eat it?

I have had in my head for some weeks the phrase 'He is worthy'. It came as I read the book Radical by David Platt (read it at your peril!) who eloquently maintains that Jesus is so magnificent, and his work on our behalf so wondrous that we are compelled to live lives surrendered entirely to him.
HE IS WORTHY... of all honour, all obedience, all our love, all our sacrifice.... and we eat sickly easter eggs. How weird is that! What a robbery of the sheer mind-blowing magnificance of God's strategy to 'make all things new'. WHY DO WE ALLOW IT?

Because we don't know the reality - that is always why we take the pathetic substitute.

A friend sent me this link to an incredibly inspiring picture - check it out. It goes some way towards the reality we have been robbed of......

May you live in the reality of being new 'in Christ', having died with him and risen with him.
